5 Foods You Can't Live Without...

Food For Thought

Look at that good 'ol tasty burger!

I don't know about you, but I am salivating at the mouth. All that is missing is an order of fries (not to mention a licensed Physician and an irate PETA member). We live in a society where health and fitness have become king. The world of fatty foods and gluten products have gone the way of the dinosaurs... but not so fast! There are a few of us who still enjoy a good 'ol burger instead of a fat-free salad (sarcasm). Here is a list of 5 foods that have me by the b@#!%...

5) Bread
For those of you who enjoy lettuce wrapped sandwiches, have at it. I'll respectfully pass. Although I've cut down on my bread intake (after finally growing tired of that constant bloated feeling), I find it hard to survive without wheat-flour dough and a little yeast in my life. From grilled cheese, to that trusty, late-night peanut butter and jelly sandwich snack, bread is a must have. Everything in moderation, of course.

4) Eggs
Excluding those with allergic reactions, how can ANY of us survive without eggs?! These s.o.b.'s go with EVERYTHING: Breads, meats, salads, tuna (for all of my gym enthusiasts who cherish a little protein). For years, we've been told how eating too many eggs contribute to alarming cholesterol numbers. In addition, studies show that eggs are one of the leading food sources to living a longer life. Whatever! One thing is for certain, when it comes to breakfast, I'd like 2 eggs over-hard, a cup of coffee and my next can't live without food...

3) Pancakes
No, number 3 is not raspberries. Nice try though.
I grew up on pancakes. Legend has it, it was the food of choice by my mother when she carried me in her belly. Perhaps that explains my infatuation for the powdery product. Pancakes have become my go to food on those occasional nights I skip eating a traditional dinner. Yes, I've eaten pancakes for dinner; maybe you should give it a try. This love affair is serious business.

2) Pizza
Hurray! more bread...

As a born New Yorker, there's nothing better than eating a slice of pizza - from an actual pizza shop (sorry, Domino's, Pizza Hut, Papa John's and DiGiorno's). I find pizza the almost perfect food and it's extremely hard turning down a pizza night. In all seriousness, I'd eat pizza on a nightly basis if not for the threat of clogged arteries and a serious bout of constipation.

1) French Fries
I've gotten my act together since a high cholesterol scare a few years back put me on an avocado/salmon/walnut diet, but I literally ate french fries multiple times a week. I simply couldn't help myself: Mc Donald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Chick-fil-A, slicing my own potatoes and tossing them onto the frying pan, eating generic brands from the supermarket, at local restaurants, you name it. I was a bonafide fry addict... still am, to some degree. But since fitness and good health play a key role in my everyday life, I had to make the necessary adjustments. Now, I commonly place fries inside of the oven and bake them. How many of you BAKE fries??
